AGIAS VARVARAS PARK
A trademark of the city of Drama is Agia Varvara Park, which has been included in the 60 most beautiful parks of Europe, within the framework of the Culture 2000 program. It occupies an area of 6 acres in the heart of the city and has its name from the homonymous church of Agia Barbara, who is there.
According to tradition, when the Turkish conquerors attempted to demolish it to build a mosque, the church was covered with water and thus rescued. The inhabitants believed it to be a miracle, and so far they honor Saint’s memory. Barbara on Dec. 4 by lighting candles on improvised boats floating on the lake, creating a stunning backdrop.

THISAYROS DAM
Among the largest power projects in the Prefecture of Drama are the hydroelectric dams of the Nestos River. The works began in 1983 with the construction of the Diverse tunnel of the Thesaurus. Nowadays the two, the Treasure and the Platanovrisi, have been built and operated and the two respective lakes have been built upstream. The height of the Treasure Dam is 175 meters, you are considered the highest dam of Greece and the surface of the lake is 18 sq. Km.

The ancient city of Philippi was founded at the edges of the marshes that covered the southeastern part of the plain of Drama. The city of Philippi is the most important archaeological site of Eastern Macedonia. Its first settlers were settlers from Thassos, founded in 360 BC. the Krinidon colony. Acne was known during the Hellenistic years.
The ancient theater of Philippi is an important monument. Its current form is the result of successive building changes, which represent various phases of the city’s history. It is located on the southeast slope of the acropolis hill, in contact with the eastern wall of the city, on which it rests.
